It's hard to know what to say about myself on this page because this blog is, itself, "about me." That said, you didn't come to this page for excuses, so here's a bit about me.
I am a wife and stay at home mom to my three sweet girls. My oldest two are school age and the third is just entering the toddler years. I have wanted to be a wife and mother for as long as I can remember. I think the first time I realized that desire, I was in kindergarten and playing with dolls, wishing they were real babies. Outside of my faith, my family is the single most important thing in my life.
Speaking of faith, I am a Roman Catholic Christian. I grew up in a Southern Baptist Christian home and as an active member of a Southern Baptist church, but converted to Catholicism as an adult. I grew up loving Jesus and had a very firm foundation in the Bible and what it means to be a Christian and that has only grown stronger as a result of my conversion to the Catholic faith. There is a lot more to my conversion story, but I'll save that for a separate page.
I am a geek. I love science, technology, the science fiction and fantasy genres, history (both real and fiction), and I'm a bit of a fangirl about certain books and TV series. Speaking of books, I will read almost anything that isn't nailed down if it interests me. When I was a kid, I was such an avid reader that I would read the labels on the cereal box or ketchup bottle while sitting at the table eating a meal. I am proud to say that my eldest child has inherited this love of reading and her next youngest sister is rapidly following suit.
I love crafty stuff, but have a special place in my heart for needlecrafts -- knitting, crocheting, quilting, general sewing, weaving, spinning, felting, etc. I'll readily admit that fabric is something of an addiction with me and I have a hard time saying no when I see something I really like. I also love drawing, colouring, painting, mixed media, sculpture, and all kinds of visual arts. I'm not so good at creating what most people think of as art, but I enjoy trying it and I love going to museums and galleries and appreciating what more talented artists do. I'm more of a performance artist (singing, acting, dancing).
Outside of my faith and family, music is my other big passion. I have been singing as long as I can remember and love music of just about every genre and style. About the only kind of music that I really don't like is stuff where the singer is basically screaming or screeching the lyrics to the point that I cannot understand what he is "singing." Even in those instances though, I can usually find something to appreciate about the music. My favourite kinds of music are choral music, classical (I have a serious love affair with Beethoven), some pop and hip hop, and what my husband Gray calls American Clever (They Might Be Giants falls into this category). I am actively involved in one of our parish choirs as a chorister, cantor, and occasional soloist.
Thanks for coming and reading here at my blog. I hope you'll find something in what I write that interests or inspires you or if not that, something that makes you smile. God bless you!
This is all fun, but your short about me bio on your sidebar may be one of the cutest ever! Nice to meet you!
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks Wendy! Nice to meet you too!
DeleteHi There. It's nice to meet you.
ReplyDeleteI too grew up Southern Baptist but as an adult converted to a more liturgical denomination (for many reasons, we probably have similar reasons). I'm also pretty artsy and craftsy myself. I'm glad I found your blog, I look forward to browsing many of your posts!
