September 11, 2014
This date should give me plenty to write about today, but I find as I begin this daily writing exercise that I don't really want to write about the significance of today's date. I am aware of it, yes, but save for a prayer for the repose of souls and those for whom this day is darkly difficult, I am leaving it alone.
That said, on to other things.
I started this blog some months ago and never really did much with it. I really enjoy writing and as such, am trying my best to rectify that. To that end, I am going to make a written commitment to myself to do the following:
1. Set aside at least fifteen to twenty minutes each day for writing at least one entry.
2. Write and try not to edit myself too much.
3. No exceptions to the writing every day rule. If I fall off the wagon one day, I will get back on it the next day.
4. I will reward myself for writing in this blog on a consistent basis in order to help foster the habit of writing every day.
5. I will also set aside at least five minutes for writing something of fiction, non-fiction, or positive poetry. The idea behind this goal is that eventually I may have something worth publishing.
6. I will share this commitment with my friend Chez, who is, himself, a writer to help keep myself accountable. I will share this blog with him to help with that accountability.
7. My trigger for this daily blog habit will be my second cup of coffee.
8. Once I have been blogging consistently for a month, I will make my blog at least semi-public to my friends.
9. I will endeavor to keep my blog entries to a readable length so as not to alienate readers who are easily overwhelmed by too many words on the screen.
10. Once I have been blogging consistently for six months and this has become a daily habit, I will make this blog public. I'll admit that as I type this, that one scares me a bit.
11. Today, 9/11/2014, I will come up with a motto for this blog. Preferably in Latin :)
I think, for now, that's enough to be getting on with. And yes, I did just end that sentence with a preposition. I have a tendency toward Grammar Nazism but that's one that I've never been able to completely give up. For now, time to end this. Ciao a tutti!
